Jean Rae Dreyfuss' Obituary
Jean Rae Yerington Dreyfuss, 88, of Tucson passed away at Banner UMC Hospital September 28, 2016 after complications from a cardiac procedure. Jean was born March 15, 1928 in Sioux City Iowa, the first child of Sofia Dorothy Hancock and Rae Benjamin Yerington. She and her family moved to Tucson in the early 30’s for her father’s health. Jean attended L.M. Prince Elementary School, and Tucson High School, where she was active in the Art Club. Jean married Richard Joseph Dreyfuss on February 12, 1946. They were married for over 70 years.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Charles Edward Yerington, and a son, Bernard, who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, Richard, her son Richard R. “Dink” Dreyfuss (Sandi), her daughter, Susan L. Rivera(David), four Grandchildren, Kristen Ginn(Jeremy), Erin Jones(Ted), Mathew “Bunker” Rivera(Laura), and Lauren Dreyfuss(Tim Arbon). She is also survived by five Great Grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean was a telephone operator before she had children. After her children were born she dedicated her life to their raising and well being. Jean was involved in PTA, the Amphi Gladiators and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Jean was also an active member or the TTT Society and volunteered at the Beacon Foundation. She was a TMC Volunteer for over 52 years and spent many years working in the Gift Shop.
Her family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Banner UMC for their professional and compassionate care.
A Scripture Service will be held at Evergreen Mortuary and Cemetery on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 11am. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jean’s name should be made to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
