John Walter Miller 1922 - 2023
After a full life of over 100 years John has moved on from life on earth to join his wives, daughter, siblings, stepson, friends and extended family in heaven. John was a kind and gentle man who had a large, blended family who he supported and loved.
John was born in Montana and grew up in Wisconsin and South Dakota. After high school he moved to California to work on aircraft. When war broke out he joined the Army. John served in Europe during WWII where he was awarded a medal for shooting down a German plane with his M1 rifle. He lost most of his hearing during the war and learned to read lips supplementing his reduced capability to hear.
Upon returning from the war John attended the University of Minnesota earning his Electrical Engineer degree. John’s post war career was with an aerospace defense company inventing and developing military weapons that were more precise to reduce civilian casualties. John also worked with NASA on the Space Shuttle projects. John loved automobiles and boats. He became a Fellow with the Society of Automotive Engineers for his inventions and designs. John retired at the age of 65.
John’s next 35 years were spent with family in various locations in the US. He lived in Minnesota, Arizona and Florida. His last years were spent in Arizona where he enjoyed telling stories and writing his life history. He was loved by many and always positive about life. His secret to long life: Be Happy!
John will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
