Joseph Herman Zuckernick's Obituary
Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, “Holy Crap . . . what a ride!”
Joseph (Joe) H. Zuckernick, age 85, of Tucson, Arizona, left this world on Saturday, June 29, 2024. The night before Joe’s passing he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and friends. Music was played, songs were sung, food was eaten and Joe was loved and celebrated.
On Saturday morning, in what can only be described as Divine planning, Joe left this world surrounded by family and friends, tears, and oceans of love.
As a young man Joe joined the military with his first stint in the USMC and the remainder of his career with the USAF. Joe enjoyed the travel opportunities the military offered, with his favorite memories centered around Turkey and Thailand.
Joe’s later careers included Program Manager for Disaster and Civil Defense for the State of Wyoming and Office Manager for the law firm Tretschok, McNamara and Clymer in Tucson, AZ. Joe attempted retirement many times with final success in 2005.
Joe was preceded in death by his brother, S. John Zuckernick, son, Richard W. Zuckernick, daughter, Cynthia E. Johnson, and granddaughter, Rosie “Isa Bear” Saenz.
Left to honor his memory is his wife of thirty-three years, Dorothy Vialpando, daughters Jeannette (Sigi) Quintana, Laura Zuckernick, Mireya Zuckernick and son, Scott Zuckernick all of Tucson, Arizona.
Joe -- Husband, Sweet Baboo, Dad, Tata, Pop Pop and Friend will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
