Juan Alberto Perez-Otero
July 12, 1931- April 9, 2023
Juan Perez-Otero passed away peacefully in his home on Easter Sunday, surrounded by family. He was 91 years old.
Juan is preceded in death by his mother and father, Juan Perez-Rodriguez and Eleodora Otero-Rivera, sister Rosita Perez-Otero and brother Juan Antonio Perez-Otero.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Tsuya Perez-Otero, daughter Awilda Perez-Otero, sons Ryo Perez-Kasuya and Alberto Perez-Kasuya (Meghann). He was the proud grandfather to Jannis Naomie Perez, Victor “Weskin” Cruz, Neil Jared Cruz and Abigail Kiyomi Perez along with many great and great great grandchildren.
Juan was born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico where he had fond memories of family, friends and attending church. He was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged after fulfilling his obligation to his country. Juan then lived in New York City before joining the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan where met his wife, Tsuya. They later married in Mexico in February of 1960. Juan served three tours of duty in Vietnam coordinating air and ground combat operations as a member of a C-130 crew. He participated in 154 combat missions. Juan made the Air Force a career and ascended to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Juan and Tsuya settled in Tucson in 1978 and raised two sons. He retired from the Air Force in 1984 after 32 years of combined service.
A devout Christian since early childhood, Juan incorporated his faith into every aspect of his life. Juan studied the Bible and its teachings every day. He worked to spread God’s love and message by hosting Bible study groups in his home. His faith was ever present and was what guided him in every way.
Our lives are better for knowing and loving Juan and we will miss him terribly.
