Julius Mendel's Obituary
Long time Tucsonan Julius Mendel passed away October 13 , 2012 after a four year battle with cancer. Born in Breslau Germany in 1925 he fled to America as a young teen, with his father, making Tucson his home for the past 66 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 loving years, Lillian Mendel. Julius was active as a local businessman founding Western Television & Radio and Able Notary Service. He was perhaps best known for his radio show "Broadway Showtime" airing on KTUC and KXCI from 1972-1982. He was a candidate for Tucson Ward 4 City council and served as the chairman of district 14 democratic party. Julius generously gave his time as a volunteer serving on the Supreme Court Foster Care Review Board and as a Special Deputy with the Pima County Sheriff's Dept. Julius was always aware of all the opportunities offered by his new homeland, America. In return he served with gratitude, patriotism, and public service. He is survived by his sons Michael (Trenty) Mendel, Stuart (Pam) Mendel, grandchildren Tina Schwitters, Melissa (Eric) Truelove, and Levi Mendel. He will be dearly missed. A very special thank you to all of Julius's physicians, Casa de la Luz Hospice, and his dear companion Ruth Levi. Graveside service Monday, October 15, 2012, 2:00 P.M., Congregation Anshei Israel section of Evergreen Cemetery, with Rabbi Robert Eisen officiating. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
