Kathryn J. Congelli's Obituary
It is with much sadness that the family of Kathryn J Congelli shares her passing on August 4, 2021. Our ProYiayia, Yiayia and Mom bound our family together with wit, laughter, food and much love. Born in Hornell, NY on June 18,1927 as a first generation American of Greek Immigrants, Christ and Victoria Lettas. After graduation from High School she attended Keuka College and then returned to her hometown to begin working for the New York Railroad.
In the late 1940’s, the family sold their restaurant business and moved to Tucson, due to the ill health of their father, Christ. Shortly thereafter she married her hometown love, Edward Congelli in Tucson in 1947. Over the next 60+ years she was involved in the family’s many bar and restaurant ventures including The Copper Skillet, Mardi Gras and the most long-standing and a Tucson favorite, Gus and Andy’s on Miracle Mile.
Kathryn’s biggest joy was to help with the raising of her 3 grandchildren Stacey, Christopher and Jason. She was an avid golfer and could be found weekly at the El Rio Golf Course with her lady friends. Summers were spent in Del Mar, Ca with her best friend, Irene. So many good times were shared with friends and family. They were either playing cards, betting on the horses or spending time at the beach.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Chambers (Daniel), grandchildren Stacey Adams (John) Jason Morrison, Christopher Morrison (Nikkii), niece Victoria Lettas, goddaughter Anita Lee along with many great grandchildren, grandnephew and godchildren.
We will miss you Yiayia!!
