Kevin Michael Kattner's Obituary
Kevin Michael Kattner was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 1, 1958, and passed away on May 11. He was a proud career airman and honorably retired from the Air Force with the rank of Captain. After the retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a systems engineer at Raytheon. He was awarded a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Iowa State University and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
Kevin was generous, loving, and giving, devoted to his wife Maria and his family. His neighbors remember him as being one of the kindest people they knew. Kevin had a witty sense of humor and remained joyful and laughing up to his death. He spent his 66th birthday in the pediatric emergency room (long story) and enjoyed cupcakes and the baby shark balloon and song brought by his nephew. He never failed to find the fun in every situation.
He got to meet and hold his long awaited first grandchild shortly before his death. He had hoped to take him to Disney and Sea World and to teach him investing. His family will certainly make sure that the vacations happen in his honor, but the investing will probably have to wait. He generously assisted his younger sisters through college after their father’s early death. He attempted to teach his youngest sister calculus at the age of 6. It did not go well.
He loved traveling talked about the trips he took with his niece and nephew, David and Stephanie. His sister Elizabeth and daughter Monica in particular remember him for walking them down the aisle at their weddings. He was a father to many others as well. With his life he showed all who knew him the heart of God; his life exemplified Psalm 68: 5-6 which says that “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families...” Kevin was not only a father in spirit and heart to many, in his love and generosity, he created families around him.
He was active member of St. Odilia Catholic Church and especially devoted to the Virgin Mary. He passed away in his room surrounded by pictures of Mary and many of his favorite saints.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry A. Katter, and his loving nephew, David Sellers. He is survived by his wife, Maria Kattner, his children Dr. Julia Schiavone Liu, Monica Rimcoski, Andrew Schivone, Gabriel Schivone, his grandson Nicholas Schivone, his mother, Jean T. O’Neil, his siblings Walter Kattner, Judith Sellers, Dr. Keith Kattner, Dr. Elizabeth Kattner-Ulrich, his nieces Stephanie Sellers and Maria Sellers, and his nephews Maximilian Ulrich and Alexander Ulrich.
