In Memoriam: Kevin Yarbrough
Kevin Yarbrough, a Supervisor at Tucson Power Production, died unexpectedly Friday. He was 43.
After joining Southwest Energy Solutions in 2009, Kevin was hired at TEP as a Maintenance Planner in 2013 and was later promoted to Electrical and Instrumentation and Control Supervisor. He is remembered as a dynamic thinker, a dependable coworker and a devoted father who had just finished building a home for his family.
Kevin was very methodical and thoughtful in his approach to his work, said Dylan Bearce, Senior Director of Energy Resources Operations. “He was analytical and super intelligent, with incredible attention to detail, and those characteristics allowed him to coordinate complexities very well,” he said. “He was also very humble and the kind of person who would bend over backwards to support others.”
His team was very close, and Kevin was committed to managing it with transparency and commitment, Dylan said. They all came in to support one another for a meeting on Monday.
Kevin came to his role leading the Electrical and Instrumentation team with a unique background as a mechanical engineer. “Mechanical work in a plant and electrical work in a plant are usually very distinct roles. I’ve never seen anyone come in with his background, but he was one of the most effective supervisors I’ve seen,” said Todd Smith, his supervisor. “He worked hard, he led by example and there wasn’t a person in that shop who didn’t respect Kevin and feel fortunate to have him in that role.”
Ryan Leon, a Maintenance Planner who supported Kevin in his supervisory role, described him as “the go-to-guy who knew everything there was about planning,” Ryan noted. “He would find solutions to problems that weren’t obvious to the rest of us.”
Ryan admired Kevin for other reasons as well. “Kevin was a very principled man, a very godly man. He stuck to his principles and always wanted to do the right thing. You could name any good characteristic, and Kevin had it.”
