Lois Coplea's Obituary
Lois Harris Coplea, age 81, of Green Valley, AZ, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025 after a courageous three-year battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1944 in Danville, VA, she was part of the Silent Generation, known for its resilience, quiet strength, and deep sense of responsibility, qualities she embodied throughout her life.
Lois was known for her warmth, resilience, and vibrant, vivacious personality. She had a gift for lighting up any room, and she was loved by all whose lives she touched. Her kindness, laughter, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She devoted much of her life to her family and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, always ready with a listening ear, wise advice, and a comforting presence. She especially treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, whether gathered around the table for family meals, celebrating holidays, or sharing stories and laughter. This generous spirit of giving extended beyond family and friends, as she always worked to help the underserved, including most recently working as a volunteer with women and children who had crossed the Nogales border.
Lois had a deep love for the outdoors and an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed writing, hiking, rollerblading and being out in nature, especially beachside. Even in her later years, she continued to push herself and set new goals. She was proudly training for a half marathon walk, a testament to her determination, energy, and refusal to let anything hold her back.
She was the ultimate fighter. Throughout her three-year journey with cancer, she faced every challenge with courage, grace, and an unshakable will to keep going for the sake of those she loved, fighting to the very last minute. Her strength, perseverance, and zest for life will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Lois is survived by Marty, her husband, Tanya, Micheal and Jason, her children, her grandchildren, Dharma, Alma, Lucy, Roscoe, Jack, Bodhi, Tyler, and Alena. She was preceded in death by her Brother Maury Matthews, and her parents, Selwin and Lois Harris.
A celebration of life will be held on December 21st at The Westin La Paloma. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lois' memory to Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona, Inc., supporting their efforts to “help children, families, and individuals live with independence and dignity” (https://www.ccs-soaz.org/donate).
Lois’ love, vibrant spirit, and unwavering strength will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those she leaves behind.
