Loren Mitchell Smith's Obituary
Loren Mitchell Smith, 80 years old, died on December 13, 2023 in Tucson, Arizona. Loren was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University in Ohio and obtained a MBA from Northeastern University in Massachusetts. During the formative years of his career, Loren honed his skills at Texas Instruments, rising through the ranks to be one of the youngest to assume the role of General Manager within the Connector Division.
From 1976 to 2001, Loren was CEO and majority shareholder of MWC, a pioneering manufacturer of cable assemblies and wire harness assemblies. One of the founders of the Wire Harness Manufacturers Association in 1995, Loren was an acknowledged leader and expert in the industry. His columns in the industry paper, Wire Harness News, were widely read and circulated for over twenty years, and he was a frequent speaker at industry events. In 2003, he founded Blue Valley Capital, a successful consulting and brokerage business with an international reach and where he worked up to the day of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gloria of Marysville, Kansas, his sons David and Brad Smith (Lara) of Rye, New York, daughter Andrea Wilkes (Ren) from New Orleans, Louisiana and his grandchildren Adam Smith and Lauren Rose, Ava and Roy Wilkes, sister Marilyn Skalsky and brother Michael Smith of Ohio. He is also survived by his cousin Robert Lebby, wife Sue and grandson Chase of Tucson, Arizona, who provided invaluable friendship and support to the entire family.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army which he and his wife supported for decades.
