Lucy J. Shilling's Obituary
Lucy J. Shillling passed away October 28, 2016 in Tucson at the age of 88. She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur Shilling; her daughters Constance Johnson (Charles); Karen Swinson; Glenna Hawkins (Stephen) and her son Christopher Smith. She is also survived by 4 stepchildren Tom, Gary, Charles and Mike Shilling; sister, Juliann Dudley (Richard) and two brothers, Allan Sanford and Robert Sanford (Lilly); 15 grandchildren, and many great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Dorothy Sanford; her sister, Eunice; her husband of 50 hears Francis H. Smith; a daughter Heidi Heider (Terry) and two grandchildren. Lucy worked in the kitchen at Flowing Wells Schools and at age 50 she went to college and became an R.N. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital until she retired.
Lucy and friends formed the Flowing Wells Women’s Volunteer Fire Co. in the 1960’s. She was an adventurous spirit and had many interests. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish. Lucy learned to paint and quilt but she was better known for her hooked rugs of her own design.
Visitation will be held November 2, 2016 from 5 pm to 8 pm with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Evergreen Mortuary, N. Oracle Rd. & W. Miracle Mile. Scripture Service November 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Mortuary with graveside to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
