Lynda Sue Brady's Obituary
Lynda Sue (Parker) Brady was born in the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee, Arizona on June 20, 1947, to John and Ola Dell Parker. She was the first of four children in the Parker family.
Lynda attended Lowell Elementary School and was a “feminine” tom-boy that enjoyed playing clarinet in the elementary band, hunting, fishing, camping, being outdoors, playing school and “cowboys and Indians.” She was frequently seen wearing jeans, cowboy boots and carrying a toy gun. She was an excellent softball player and played in the Bisbee Girl’s Softball League.
Following elementary school, she attended Bisbee High School. She was an excellent shortstop and third baseman and as a freshman was invited to play on Bisbee’s Semi-Pro Women’s Softball team. The challenge of playing adult women was too much and she played only a few games. However, her love of the game carried over to her sons and her only granddaughter who will soon be playing collegiate softball. In high school Lynda played tennis as well as playing clarinet and saxophone in the band. This love of music was shared with her grandchildren. She attended the Senior Prom with a young man named Joseph Brady, and it became more than a date.
Lynda graduated from Bisbee High in 1965 and enrolled at Cochise Junior College. While attending Cochise Junior College she played clarinet in the band and was an excellent student. She received her Associates Degree in 1967 and transferred to Northern Arizona University. Lynda graduated from NAU in 1969 with a degree in Elementary Education. She made numerous life long friends while attending NAU.
Lynda not only got a BS in education in 1969 but she also got a “Mrs.” when she married her high school sweetheart, Joe Brady. The couple moved to Tucson, Arizona where they started their careers in education. Lynda taught 2nd and 3rd grade in the Tucson Unified School District for 35 years at Brichta and Tully Elementary schools and retired in May of 2005. She loved teaching and loved all her students. During this time Lynda attended the University of Arizona and received her Master of Education degree.
Joe and Lynda decided that Tucson would be their lifelong home and started their family. Joe and Lynda became the proud parents of two fine young men, Matthew and James. Lynda’s pride and joy were her two boys, their wives and her five grandchildren. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and was always available to lend a hand babysitting or retrieving them from school or their many extracurricular activities. She was always nurturing and enjoyed spoiling them when she could. Spending time with them put a smile on her face that will never be forgotten.
One of her bucket list items was owning a horse and she realized her dream when she had the privilege of sharing co-ownership of Sunny with her grandsons who shared their love of horses with her and were able to build their own special connection that will always be a cherished memory. Lynda and Joe’s love of the outdoors was transmitted to their boys and now to the grandchildren. Lynda was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Lynda is preceded in death by her parents John and Ola Dell Parker, her husband Joe Brady and her sisters-in-law Nancy Parker and Lynda Parker. She is survived by her children Matthew (Lisa) Brady and James (Jamie) Brady, her grandchildren Mason and Paige Brady and Ethan, Parker and Patrick Brady. She is also survived by her brothers John (Arlene) Parker and Daniel Parker and her sister Sarah (David) Sexton and nieces, Jamie Slusher, Ashley Parker, Desere’ Sexton and Stephanie Hite.
Services will be held on February 11, 2023 at the Evergreen Mortuary beginning with visitation at 10:00 am and ceremony at 11:00am.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lynda’s name and memory to the American Cancer Society
