I met Jim Barber a few years after he had returned to Tucson, as I was the Field Engineering Manager in the Department of Transportation in 1976, a job he later held for the County for 11 years. I got to know Jim through a variety of social networking organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Professional Engineers as well as through his activities of both the Sundt and Ashton Companies.
He was a well-respected engineering professional and lived in the same general Flowing Wells area that I did. He was an ardent supporter of professional development and education in general and could be counted on to give you a straight answer on anything you chose to discuss with him. He served Pima County as our Field Engineering Manager in the Department of Transportation during a major, new road construction program. Jim successfully completed every project he worked on and was a tremendous professional asset for Pima County. Many of the roads that you drive on or buildings you work in were built by Jim Barber.
He loved his family and respected his coworker, two admirable traits among his many accomplishments.
