Margaret Ellen Reed's Obituary
Margaret "Ellen" Reed, 67, of Tucson, AZ, was reunited with other loved ones on April 5, 2013, surrounded by family and friends. Born July 15, 1945, in Memphis, TN, Ellen's family moved to Tucson in 1952 where she graduated from Rincon High School and the University of Arizona. As a traditionalist with a twist, this Southern lady changed and enriched young lives working at Henry Elementary and Catalina and Sabino High Schools. Ellen was a respected educator, elected by her peers as the Arizona High School Counselor of the Year where she served as the Technology Chairperson for the Arizona School Counselor Association. Guiding hundreds of grateful students through high school, Ellen was selected by Tucson area students to receive the Crystal Apple Award for her dedication as a counselor. Ellen's students and colleagues benefitted from her expertise, leadership and compassion. Ellen volunteered for 10 years as a member of the University of Arizona Alumni Scholarship Committee, helping to select students to receive tuition scholarships. She volunteered at the Arthritis Foundation, participated in Bible studies, took ukulele classes and blessed everyone she met. Ellen loved her professional work and treasured her family and friends. Ellen and Tom, married for 43 years, enjoyed partnering in business (Jones Drug and Reed's Compounding Pharmacy), cheering for the Wildcats, parenting, grand parenting, traveling and celebrating life with family and friends. Margaret Ellen Reed, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, neighbor, colleague, counselor, teacher, alumni and volunteer, made all of us better people for knowing and loving her, as she truly loved all of us. Her strength, wisdom and enduring love will live on forever in our hearts. We will always cherish our time with you, Ellen, wife, mom, Grammi. Ellen is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas, daughter, Dana (Mike Kane) and their children MacKinzie and Garrett; son, David (Tina) and their children Keegan, Brady and Jackson; sister, Maryann Miller (Duane), niece Kimberly DeVault, nephews Brian DeVault, John Jason and Scott Reed; cousin Robert (Brenda) Huff, brother-in-law John (Margie) Reed, dog Patrick, and many beloved friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
