Marian Paige Segall's Obituary
Born on January 1st 1923 in Montgomery, Alabama and died on September 25, at age 92 in Tucson. She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel & Fannie, her brother Morris and her beloved Sam Barr. Survived by sister-in-laws Janet Barr Miller, Sonia Barr, Sherry Cohen, Thelma Silverstein and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
After high school, Marian traveled the country performing for the USO in an all-girls band. At 22, she was spotted by a New York agent and signed a contract with MCA. Her stage name was Marian Page and became known as “The Pixie from Dixie”.
Marian entertained for more than 30 years at the Monkey Bar located in the upscale Hotel Elysee in New York City, performing 4 to 5 shows nightly. She was an accomplished concert pianist with pieces ranging from classical, to her signature Malaguena and the boogie-woogie version of the “Flight of the Bumblebee.” Her witty humor included a standup comedy routine with material ranging from Dolly Parton to political satire.
An avid baseball fan, Marian was awarded a gold pass to attend every National League baseball game, seated directly behind the dugout. She was an avid reader of the daily newspaper along with books and magazines. In 1980, she moved to Tucson and continued to perform and entertain as she did not believe in retirement.
Memorial services with be held in Tucson on Wednesday, September 30th, 2015, 2 pm at Evergreen Mortuary, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Graveside services will be held in Montgomery, Alabama.
