Mario Benjamin Hernandez's Obituary
Mario Benjamin Hernandez, 56, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona after a lengthy illness. He was born in Metapan, El Salvador to Mariano de Jesus Hernandez and Felipa Martinez. He was raised by his paternal grandmother, Imelda de Jesus Ruiz Hernandez and his paternal uncle, Francisco Javier Hernandez. Mario (to some longtime friends) and Ben, as he liked to be called in recent years, loved to cook and bake and entertain. He also loved to dance to country western music, especially line dancing. He had an infectious smile. He could light up a room with his presence and his wonderful smile. He was a kind soul and very sweet and thoughtful.
Ben met his loving husband, Gib Murray, on June 20, 2008, country western dancing in Studio City, California. They got married on December 31, 2013, in Los Angeles, California.
Ben is survived by his husband, Gib Murray of Tucson, AZ; his mother, Felipa Martinez of Columbus, OH; his sisters, Maribel Martinez (Antonio Ayala) of Culver City, CA and Evelyn Hernandez (Rafael Garcia) of Silver City, CA; his brother, Mariano de Jesus Hernandez Jr. of TX, and Hector Edelmir Trinidad of Jasper, IN; sisters in law, Susie Schmidt of Abilene, TX, and Prissy Murray of Gainesville, TX; brother in law, Tom Murray(Stacy) of Pensacola, FL; nieces, Maria Elena Martinez of Columbus, OH, Natalie Argueta of Buffalo, NY, and Sheila Hernandez of Silver Lake, CA; nephew, Benjamin Hernandez; and many many friends.
He is also survived by his recue dog, Maximus Aurelius. His rescue, StarBuck passed away in 2013. You are loved my friend, Ben Hernandez. Such a joyous spirit, a radiant heart, and a generous purveyor of laughter. Good food, fantastic libations and so much silliness through the years. You will be missed and remembered forever and always.
