Marion E. Taylor's Obituary
Mrs. Marion Ellen Taylor (Sawyer), of Tucson, AZ died in her home, surrounded by her family on June 14, 2015. She was 92 years old.
Marion is survived by three of her children, Susan Taylor of Tucson, AZ; Mary Carrillo of Tucson, AZ; and Barbara (David) Macomber of Pasadena, MD; her five grandchildren; and her nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Edward Taylor of Boston, MA; daughter Kathleen Lopez of Tucson, AZ; parents, David and Mary Sawyer of Northampton, MA; and sister, Doris Staples of Westfield, MA.
Marion was born on November 1, 1922 in Northampton, MA to David and Mary Sawyer. She attended St. Michaels High School in Northampton, MA, graduating in 1940. She began working as an administrative assistant, and later met Lawrence Taylor by chance at a USO party that neither of them planned to attend. They were engaged within six months, and married June 12, 1948 in Northampton, MA. During their various military transfers, wars, and adventures, they traveled many places including Germany and Alaska. Over the years, the couple welcomed four children into their home and Marion set about teaching them the compassion, hard work, and skills that would forge their eventual careers. Her surviving children remember her as a driven, brilliant woman and a patient mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
In addition to her illustrious career, Marion was a hard-working individual who loved her growing family, teaching and playing card games with the kids, arts and crafts, and enjoying social functions with friends and family.
Marion passed away peacefully in her home after a short illness. She will be remembered as an excellent optimist, an engaging socialite, and a leading figure within communities.
A funeral is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Mortuary, with a reception to follow at the family house. Michael Blevins will preside over the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marion's life. In lieu of flowers, the family has opened a GoFund Me account for donations to assist with medical and funeral costs.
