Marion Wong's Obituary
Marion Wong passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday February 24, 2024 at the age of 93. She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be missed by everyone she touched throughout her life.
Born in Tucson AZ to Henry and Mary Lee on January 6, 1931, she lived her entire life as a native Tucsonan. Shortly after graduation from Tucson High School in June 1949, she met and married her lifelong love Joe Wong on September 4, 1949. They were blissfully married for over 53 years until Joe’s passing in 2003. Together they raised three sons Daniel, Andrew and Sanford.
Preceded in death by husband Joe and son Andrew, she is survived by sons Daniel (Leslie) and Sanford (Sally), grandchildren Derek, Jamie (Jesse), Jason, Christopher and Megan, and great grandchildren MaryLu Wong, Jalen and Jacinda Ornelas and will be missed by her countless nephews and nieces.
Besides raising her three sons, Marion was instrumental to the success of businesses she and husband Joe built. Together they opened two grocery stores - Country Markets on south 12th avenue and on east 22nd street. Later they converted the store on 22nd to a Chinese restaurant -Wong’s. Customers were met with her infectious and engaging personality as they entered to shop the store or dine in the restaurant.
Upon her retirement in 1989, Marion enjoyed the typical activities retirees do- gardening, cooking, arts and crafts cross word puzzles and occasional trips to the casino.
The fall of 2021, Marion moved in to Park Villa Senior care on Houghton Road. She really enjoyed her stay there and was always participating in the activities the facility provided. Once there she became friends with all the residents, in fact last year one of her high school classmates became a resident. The family would like to thank the Park Villa staff for their care of Marion, she thought of them as family. Special thanks to Kristopher Battaglia, Erika Herrera, Bre Mathews and Nanette Ballestero for their care during her final days.
Visitation for Marion will be Monday March 4 from 4-7 pm and service will be Tuesday March 5 at 1:00 pm.
