Martha K. Rothman's Obituary
Martha K. Rothman, 89, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born to the late Sarah and Joseph Wagman, June 25, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA. Martha graduated from Alderdice High School in 1943 and received a BA in Home Economics Education from Carengie Mellon in 1947. She worked as a teacher until her marriage to the late Samuel Rothman in 1948. In 1962, Martha and her family relocated to Tucson, AZ. In addition to her service as editor of the Arizona Jewish Post, Martha volunteered with the National Council of Jewish Women and the United Way of Southern Arizona, leading to the founding of Tucson Association for Child Care, later renamed Child and Family Resources. Martha served as executive director of the organization from its inception in 1970 until her retirement in 2004. She continued to remain active through her service on the boards of various local nonprofit organizations and city committees. Martha's lifelong commitment to the community was an inspiration to all those she touched. Her belief that we are only as good as the quality of our care for and connection with each other infused her relationships with each member of the close-knit family for which she served as a mentor, touchstone and anchor. Martha is survived by her two children, Frances Stoler and T. Todd Rothman (Lanny) of Tucson, AZ, as well as four grandchildren, Sara Stoler of New York, NY; Danielle Barraza (Adrian) of Helsinki, Finland; Tyler and Hannah Rothman of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Janet Markel (Barry Lormer) of Pittsburgh, PA; Richard Rothman (Jackie) of Denver, CO; Lee Wagman (Barbara) Los Angeles, CA; Steven Wagman (Karyn) of Danville, CA; Betsy Bourgein (John) of Orinda, CA; Duffy Wagman (Suzanne Kaiser) of Tucson, AZ; Wendy Daniel (Joseph) of Boulder, CO; three great-grandchildren; fourteen great-nieces and nephews; seven great-great-nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, July 4, 2014, 9:00 AM at Temple Emanu-El, 225 North Country Club Road, Tucson, Arizona 85716 with burial to follow at Evergreen Mortuary Cemetery, 3015 North Oracle Road, Tucson, Arizona 85705. The family request donations in Martha's honor be made to Casa de los Ni os, the Tucson Pima Arts Council or Donorschoose.org.
