Martin Irving Miller's Obituary
My father, Martin I. Miller, "Marty" was short in stature and a giant in character. He was liked and loved by all who met him. He had a positive impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was intelligent, funny yet nonintrusive, kind and willing to help any of his friends or family members - even at the expense to himself. He was a humble man. When asked about the Bronze Star and Accommodations awarded to him due to his contributions during WWII in the Army Signal Corp, he would change the subject or minimize his efforts. From the time of his discharge to a few months before his death, Marty was very active in the Jewish War Veterans, welcoming the troops on layovers at the Tucson airport, helping run monthly Bingo games for the VA patients, selling poppies, and raising money for needed supplies for our veterans. He married the love of his life, Rhoda prior to going to War. Rhoda died 09/06/09. My dad grieved and showed all of us how to continue living life - which he did until the day he died. He loved and was dedicated to his friends and his family. Daughter Marilyn Levy, grandsons Josh Bortnick, Brandon Bortnick (Vanessa) and great granddaughter Chloe, son Michael Miller (deceased 11/18/12), sister Lois Schatz (Phil deceased), sisters-in-law Sondra Silbert (Lenny), HarleneArenberg (Eli deceased), brother-in-law Andy Bryen (Gloria deceased) and his dear adopted daughters, Terrie Sherman and Kate Russell. Kate spent endless hours caring for him and relating stories of "back East". A very special acknowledgement goes to Sandy Grossman, the dear woman who reintroduced Marty to life after Rhoda died and became his special love. Marty would like to thank his unbelievably kind, loving and professional TMC Hospice nurses Kelli and Linda and Betsy his social worker. Sylvia Arvizu was a dedicated and loving caregiver to Marty. Marty also wants to thank his doctors, particularly DrsZaetta and Tweena. May we carry Marty's history, his good deeds and laugher in our stories - he was a good man - a MENCHE.
