Maureen Hertel's Obituary
Maureen Hertel, 91, passed away peacefully in Green Valley, AZ on January 15, 2018. She was born on September 12, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, IA to the late Michael and Elizabeth Shea.
She had fond memories of her father and growing up in Cedar Rapids as she took over the role of her mother at a young age. Maureen later met Robert Hertel, they married and eventually settled in Wheaton, IL with their six children. After praying to never wash dishes again, she was offered the office manager position at Water Quality Association. She devoted over 30 years of service with much praise and gained life-long friendships. Throughout the 35 years of living in Winfield, you could find her at John’s Buffet or the VFW for the fish fry. During her years of retirement, she enjoyed travel and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also continued to work as a nanny for a family she adored. Her heart of gold has touched many. She spent her life caring for others, never expecting anything in return.
Maureen is survived by her children, Mark Hertel, Theresa Clark, Bob (Julia) Clark, Michael Hertel, Alicia Hertel, Nancy (Luis) Hertel-Calvo, and Elizabeth Hertel; grandchildren, Christine (Ryan) Staniszeski, Kevin Clark, Sara Kanak, and Kathleen Kanak; great-grandchildren, Clark, Maureen, Ashley, and Stevie Staniszeski; siblings, Anna Mae (Phil) Erickson and John (Mary) Shea; best friend of many years, Betty Blake; and many extended family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hertel; and siblings, Kathleen (Jerry) McNichols and Alice (Dan) Truesdale.
Services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 (Maureen’s favorite day of the year) at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 0S233 Church St., Winfield, IL 60190.
