Michael Lee Peer's Obituary
Michael Lee Peer, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and adored sibling, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 79. Born on Christmas day in 1946 to Helen Gale Peer and Cecil David Peer in Davenport, Iowa, Michael was a man who embodied the spirit of the season – giving joy and spreading laughter wherever he went.
Michael is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Linda E. (Martin) Peer; his beloved children, Elizabeth Moore, James Peer, and Melody Higven; his cherished dog, Baby-Monster; 15 grandchildren, 23.5 great-grandchildren, and his dear siblings, Daniel Peer, Suzanne Gentry, Rebecca Wood, and David Joe Peer. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be carried on by his many cherished loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, leaving this world to join them and other loved ones who have passed on before him.
After graduating from Hannibal High School, Michael served our nation with honor and dignity in the United States Army, Armor Division, from 1966 to 1968 followed by 4 years reserve. Michael was recognized as an expert sharpshooter for rifle, pistol, and submachine gun. Following his service, he embarked on a fulfilling career first with CG&Q Railroad in Hannibal, Mo., and then as a heavy equipment operator at Asarco copper mines in AZ, from which he retired after 31 dedicated years. He loved operating those monster machines.
Michael was a man of many passions, including woodworking and auto mechanics, hobbies that allowed his creativity and meticulous nature to shine. He found great pleasure playing card games with his family and siblings whenever possible. However, his most remarkable traits were his faithfulness to God, his devotion to his family and his love for his church and extended family. A conversation with Michael was never short of laughter and wisdom, his lively spirit left an unforgettable mark on all who had the privilege to know him.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at New Life Pentecostal Church, 2202 N Fremont Ave, Tucson, AZ, 85719. Viewing will begin at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 12pm. The services will conclude at Evergreen Cemetery with graveside military honors, a fitting tribute to a man who served his country with unwavering commitment.
In a life filled with laughter, love, respect, and service, Michael Lee Peer left an impact on the world that will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his many loved ones.
