Michael Anthony Vela's Obituary
Michael Anthony Vela 37, of Tucson, Arizona, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 31, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and friend whose life, though far too short, was filled with love, laughter, and dedication to the people he cherished most.
Born on May 16, 1988. Michael grew up with a deep love for family and a strong sense of loyalty to those around him. He worked as a water truck driver with Granite Construction, where his coworkers fondly knew him as the “social butterfly” for his ability to brighten any room, make lasting friendships, and bring people together with his humor and easy smile.
He is survived by his loving wife Leonela, and their children Ibraham, Anna, and Lia; his father Isaias Vela; his grandparents Spencer and Maria Jones; his brothers, his sisters; his nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forward. Michael was preceded in death by his mother Anna Louise Rivota and his grandfather Pete Vela.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Zion City Santa Cruz (1775 W. Ajo Way, Tucson, AZ) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family, friends, and coworkers are invited to gather to honor and celebrate Michael’s life.
Though we mourn his passing, we take comfort in knowing Michael is now in the arms of the Lord. “Gone from our arms but never from God’s care—we’ll see you again in the home He’s prepared.”
