Morris Patashnick's Obituary
Born on June 9th, 1925 in Woodridge in the Catskill Mountains of New York, Morris Patashnick grew up as a particularly spirited child, the son of Rose and Hyman Patashnick. When he became of age Morris enlisted in the Army to serve in the Pacific during World War II. Having seen significant action and awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, his recollection of the war instead centered on his fellow soldiers and his ping pong championships. His interests in sports were avid and continued into his senior years when he led his fellow softball players to notable successes including a gold medal in the Senior Olympics. Following the war, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. He continued his employment with the federal government, and his career was capped by his work at the Natick Army Labs on the development of nutrition for the US manned space program until his retirement in 1975. Morris was most energized and pleased in his associations with wildlife and his use of photography to share this interest. These pleasures were only eclipsed by the opportunities he took to help other people, particularly other seniors in his community to whom he would often and enthusiastically lend a hand. Morris Patashnick is survived by seven nieces and nephews, their families, close friends, as well as his legacy of a sharp wit and good humor. Graveside services will be held 9:30 am Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile.
