Nell Lowman Carlston's Obituary
Nell Lowman Carlston was born on October 26, 1930, in Nueces County, Texas, to Cliett and Mildred Lowman. She grew up a rangy, Texas farm girl with a wide open smile and heart to match. She died May 18, 2016 at the age of 86. A 54-year resident of Tucson, she remained a Texan in spirit. Nell was a graduate of Texas A&I University and attended the University of Texas where she was affiliated with Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, an association which continued with alumni activities at the University of Arizona. She earned her Master's of Education at the University of Arizona. Nell married her Navy pilot, Hank (Henry F. Carlston), and they moved to Phoenix. In 1962 they came to Tucson with their young children, Sherrie, Pennie and Mark. Hank opened the Carlston Real Estate Appraisal Service and was joined in this business by Nell after her return from working for a period as bookkeeper for the Patagonia School System. They were business partners until their retirement. Nell possessed a natural elegance, bravery and grace. Her generous and luminous smile warmed all those who met her. She was always willing to laugh, to listen, to help and to serve. Nell volunteered with Interfaith Community Services for many years as office bookkeeper, was a member of Casas Adobes Congregational Church and a 41-year member of Chapter BB, P.E.O. Sisterhood (A Philanthropic Educational Organization). She will be sincerely missed by the many loyal and loving friends of whose lives she was a part. She brought us joy, spread her grace into our lives and will always be with us in sweet memory. Nell is survived by daughter, Sherrie Jones of New Mexico; grandsons, Caleb Jones (Farah), Jeremiah Jones (Jessica) and Daniel Jones. Also six great-grandchildren added great happiness to her life: Colton, Stetson and Araya Cassandra; Marshall, Carson Hank and JohnPaul Wesley. In addition, sister-in-law, Ann Lowman of Longview, TX and many nieces and nephews in Texas. She was preceded in death by husband Hank, daughter, Pennie, son, Mark and brothers, Junior and Russell Lowman. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 1:00 p.m at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Interfaith Community Services, 2820 W. Ina Road, Tucson, AZ 85741.
