Nora G. Retsinas' Obituary
Nora Retsinas, ne Veremis, passed away on July 7, 2024, at the age of 95. She is predeceased by her beloved husband James, daughter Demetra, and son Dean. Nora was born on July 30, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois and was raised by Greek immigrant parents in a close-knit family with three siblings, fostering a strong Community connection with their family grocery business and Greek American network.
Nora and Jim moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1962, where they lived for the rest of their lives. A devoted caregiver to several family members for much of her adult life, Nora was a true inspiration who lived her life with vibrant positivity and purpose. Always welcoming others into her home, she hosted visiting members from the “Up with People” organization, where she fostered lifelong friendships, especially Eduardo, with whom she shared a loving mother and son relationship over the past fifty years.
Nora was a very active member at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, where she served as President of the Philoptochos Society philanthropic organization for many years, as well as Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Tucson. Nora and Jim loved to travel and embarked on many international tours, often together with her sister Bess and brother-in-law Dean. She was loved by all who knew her through her uplifting personality and generous spirit.
Funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be directed to Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church 520-622-2265.
