Ovis "Sonny" Mead's Obituary
Sonny (Ovis) O. Mead
Sonny Mead, of Blountsville, AL, was born on August 3, 1944, and passed away in Tucson, AZ on September 23, 2015, at the age of 71 years old.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife, Rosa; mother Imogene Mead; sister Judy Caviglia; his children: Tina Mead-Ramirez (Paul), Carlos Reyes (Heather), Ali Reyes (Makena Reppert), Sydney; grandchildren: Shay Ramirez and Madison Ramirez; along with more family members, friends and business associates . He is preceded in death by his father, Major P. Mead and his sister, Patricia Liska.
Sonny attended Amphi High School and later became an apprentice carpenter. Sonny worked for established construction companies, and later opened his own successful business, "Merit Builders" est. in 1969; becoming a major contributor to the development of Tucson and the surrounding areas. Although, Sonny was prosperous in his line of work, he always remained humble and generous by donating and giving back to charities within the community. In addition to managing a successful business, he took pleasure in: sprint car racing, horseracing, music, vacationing and enjoying a cold Coors Light. His family and friends will continue to remember him as a brilliant, fun, and hardworking family man that he was.
While Sonny has reunited with the Lord, our pain will last a lifetime. Our cherished memories of him will never leave us, but make us eternally grateful for the precious time we were able to share with him.
A mass will be held in Sonny’s memory at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (300 N. Tanque Verde Loop Road, Tucson, Arizona 85748) with a reception immediately following.
Floral arrangements may be sent to Corpus Christi Church or donation contributions may be made to Tu Nidito (www.tunidito.org) in Sonny’s memory.
