Patricia Ann Hardy Hays' Obituary
Patricia Ann Hardy Hays, 82, of Tucson, Arizona, died peacefully Friday, September 23, 2011. Born in Chester, West Virginia on January 5, 1929, Pat was the beloved wife of Dr. Warren S. Hays. She is survived by her children; Michael (Peggy) Curran-Hays of Camp Hill, PA, Mark Hays of Modesto, CA, and Matt (Peggy) Hays of Colorado Springs, CO; her brother Dale (Barbara) Hardy of Sedona, AZ; and sister, Sondra (Ted) Robinson of Mt. Vernon, OH, and dear friend Polly Weber-Smith of Tucson. Her beloved grandchildren are Kyle (Chiara), Connor and Shane Curran-Hays, Joshua Hays, Tyler and Ashley Hays. On June 23, 1950 she married her college sweetheart Warren. She earned a Bachelors Degree from West Liberty State College and a Masters Degree from the University of Arizona. She began teaching in a one-room country school in Ohio. Both she and her husband were vitally interested in teaching children to read and they supported and encouraged each other in that endeavor for over thirty years. They lived in Rehoboth, DE for seven years before moving to Tucson, due to her asthma. She taught in the Amphitheatre School District for 26 years. In 1985 she was selected as runner up for Arizona Teacher of the Year and served as an adjunct professor at Northern Arizona University. She had numerous health problems in later years but she was a fighter and she never gave up. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain View Retirement Village and Casa de Luz Hospice for all of the care and kindness shown to their mother. A celebration of her life will take place at Mountain View Retirement Village, 7800 La Canada at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 2. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Tucson chapter or the American Heart Association, Tucson chapter. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY.
