Patricia Young's Obituary
Patricia Young passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024. Pat was born July 16, 1940 on the family’s farm in Delmar, Iowa to Harold D. Young and Vera Venita Kellogg. She was the youngest of her two sisters, Barbara Jean Young and Joan Beverly Johanboeke. Shortly after Pat was born, the family moved to Tucson, AZ. She attended Catalina High School spending the summers with her sisters swimming at Himmel Pool. The family enjoyed taking day-trips to Mount Lemon and vacationing in Oceanside, CA.
In 1963 Pat graduated with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and received her Master’s Degree in Education in 1973 both from University of Arizona. She started her teaching career on an educational tour at Blenman Elementary School and then taught at both Catalina (now Doolen) Junior High and Catalina High School. Later Pat switched from a Classroom Teacher to a P.E. Resource Teacher. She moved to Borton Magnet School where she taught Dance and P.E for 21 years which led to a 40-year career in teaching. Pat was an excellent teacher; it was her passion. She was one of those teachers that students never forgot. Years after Pat retired no matter where she went in Tucson past students would recognize her and tell her that they loved her class and that she was their favorite teacher.
Over the years, Pat enjoyed traveling the world, horseback riding, bowling, swimming, golfing, genealogy, and attending exercising classes at La Mariposa Fitness & Sports Club. She also loved spending time with her family vacationing at Disneyland and the California beaches in Oceanside and Carlsbad.
