Philip Balch, Ph.D.'s Obituary
Philip Balch Ph.D., 1/22/47 3/17/12, beloved husband, father, brother and friend passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning. Phil was a prominent psychologist and expert in his field, but more importantly he was a truly exceptional person in every way. Phil started his career as a professor of Psychology at the University of Arizona where he received tenure. Phil went on to have a successful private practice for over 30 years and was greatly respected by his peers. He served as the president of the Arizona State Board of Psychological Examiners and as a member of many boards and commissions. Phil will be profoundly missed by his loving wife Karen, his daughters Riann and Marisa, his brother Fred and brother-in-law Ben and his many friends and colleagues. He loved his wife and family with every ounce of his being. He had uncompromising ethics and lived his life with the utmost integrity. He was a religious man, passing on his faith to his daughters. Phil was vibrant, adventurous and athletic. He was an avid tennis player, skier, scuba diver, swimmer and bicyclist. He was a fervent Wildcats fan and an all around sports enthusiast. He had a love for art and nature, and traveled the world with his wife and best friend by his side. They enjoyed every day together. He rejoiced in his children's accomplishments and grieved in their sorrows. He will join his father Joseph, his mother Fay and his daughter Stephanie in eternity. Services will be held at Evergreen Mortuary, 3015 N. Oracle Road at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 19th, (520)888-7470. In lieu of flowers, the family requests tax deductable donations to the Dr. Philip Balch Teen Scholarship for the March of the Living.
