Phyllis Eileen Landers' Obituary
Phyllis Eileen Landers
In the early morning hours of March 1, 2015, Phyllis Eileen Landers passed away at Life Care of Tucson, following a lengthy, progressive illness. She was 84 years old.
Phyllis was born on May 6, 1930, in the city of Moundsville in Marshall County, WV. She was the first daughter and second child of Russell J. and Mary D. Parsons.
As a girl, Phyllis loved music. She took up the trumpet at an early age, playing throughout her school years, and was first chair in her high school band. Later in life, she would pass that love of music on to her children. Phyllis also loved to dance.
In her early 20’s, Phyllis met the man who would become her husband. With him, she raised five children – four daughters and a son. Her job at that time was that of housewife and mother, and she was a wonderful mother, active in the PTA, and always supportive of her children’s endeavors.
As her children grew older, Phyllis entered the work force, and ultimately retired from an administrative assistant position with the State of Arizona Department of Transportation, District Engineer’s office, where she had been for many years prior to her retirement.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Mary Parsons; and by her brother, Charles R. Parsons.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Ruth Sellers of Moundsville, WV; her children, Cynthia Landers of Tucson, Linda Landers of Vail, Denise Foreman of Tucson, Dan Landers of Mesa, and Tracy Velasquez of Phoenix; one niece, one nephew, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 11:00 am at Evergreen Mortuary and Cemetery in Tucson, AZ on Wednesday, March 3, 2015.
