I met Jean roughly 15 years ago through our Jewish Congregation, Congregation Havurim. Little did I know from our conversation at lunch at Mimi's Restaurant that day, the love story that would ensue. My father was living alone in Detroit, a widower in declining health with no family nearby. I made it my mission to convince him to move to California, and unbeknownst to all of us, Jean became an instrumental part of the plan. On his visit to Murrieta, I took him to all of the places I thought would be of interest to him- the temples, the bowling alley, the senior centers, the Mormon Church (for his genealogy research), etc. But knowing how important Judaism is to him, I felt it was only fair to make sure he had a true understanding of what it would be to live as a Jewish single person in a very non-Jewish area. I arranged for Jean to meet us for lunch one afternoon, and I had her share her experiences with him (I believe she shared her phone number with him as well! Lol). At the end of our meal, as we were leaving the restaurant, my dad planted a kiss on Jean's cheek, and the seeds of love were sown! At their wedding at Menifee Lakes I recall Jean's tender touch on my father's cheek as tears of joy cascaded down his face. People said that I did a mitzvah introducing them, and if so, I will happily accept the charge. I am grateful to Jean for all of the love, care, and adventures that she provided my father in his golden years. Her background knowledge from being an ER nurse and her dedication to my dad helped him return to a much healthier state and together they were able to travel, participate in temple activities (including singing in the choir), and so much more. Although we did not always agree on current event issues, I will never forget all of our get-togethers and passionate conversations! Thank you Jean for all that you have meant to my father and our family. You will be missed!
