Renée Gutman's Obituary
Dr. Renée Hoffert Gutman of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on November 26, 2025. She was 74.
Renée was born on February 14, 1951, and grew up in Yonkers and Mamaroneck, NY. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College and received a Ph.D. in neuropsychology from the City University of New York. She spent several decades as a child neuropsychologist, first in New York and then in Tucson, where she helped families and schools navigate learning disabilities like dyslexia and other challenges.
In 1971, Renée married Jonathan Gutman, who preceded her in death after 46 happy years together. They raised their family in Mamaroneck and were active in the local Jewish community. They moved to Tucson in 2004 and quickly became important members of the Jewish community there too.
In addition to her passion for her work and devotion to family, Renée was an avid swimmer, Israeli folk dancer, and scuba diver. She loved animals of all kinds but especially Great Danes.
She is survived by her children (and their spouses), Benjamin (Felice Kelly) and Rachel Light (Jonathan Freiman), and the grandchildren and step-grandchildren whom she adored: Elijah, Malachi, Ramona, Gabriel, Elijah, and Caleb. She also is survived by her siblings Marvin and Deborah Hoffert.
A funeral will be/was held in Greenwich, Connecticut, on November 30, 2025, where she will be/was interred next to her beloved Jonathan.
Donations in Renee's memory can be made to her synagogue, Bet Shalom in Tucson, Arizona. or Ezra academy in Woodbridge, Connecticut, where all her grandchildren were/are educated.
