Manuel Gonzalez
I first became acquainted with Richard a few years ago when we began to work together on the Spanish edition of his book Dawn of a Dynasty: The Life and Times of Infante Don Manuel of Castile. In that short time, we developed a warm and close friendship and wrote often of trying to meet and get to know each other in person. We almost did when the book was publicly presented here in Spain in February of last year, under the title Albores de una Dinastia: La Vida y los Tiempos del Infante Manuel de Castilla (1234-1283). However, our getting together was not to be. It was with great sadness that I heard of his death only today, July 2. I would like to convey my most heartfelt condolences to all his family, of whom he spoke constantly.
With my deepest sympathy,
