Richard Sewall Robinson III's Obituary
Richard Sewall Robinson III died on March 7, 2023 after having survived a heart valve replacement in January. He was 55 years young.
Rick was born April 28, 1967 on Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS and was named for his grandfather and father. In the Army, he was often called Sparky, a name he picked up when he was working at a gas station as a teenager. After the service, Rick was known as Rocket because he was always a full speed ahead type of guy.
Rick's earliest years were spent in Mississippi, the Philippines, and Florida as an Air Force brat before his family moved to the south shore of Massachusetts in 1970. Several years after graduating from high school in Marshfield, MA, Rick entered the US Army and was stationed in Korea and Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was a Corporal when he was discharged in 1989. In was in 1990 that he moved to Tucson with one of his friends.
In 1995 he bought his house in Tucson. He attended Pima Community College until the GI Bill ran out. Rick was charismatic and well-liked by his many friends. When he was working at Copper State Nut and Bolt, he told his mother, "the ladies in the front office love me." He worked in several different industries. He loved building models and worked as a manager at Classic Hobbies for several years. Some years ago, he began building the Space 1999 Eagles. People here and abroad paid him to custom build a model for them. His work was of the highest caliber. He was happiest when he was busy and working out of doors as he was in his most recent job at Made In The Shade.
One of Rick's mottos was, "Don't be the dim bulb. Get out there and shine." He was a bright light to many of us. We will miss his bright presence in our lives.
Richard Sewall Robinson III is survived by his mother, Lorraine Gilmore (David Elsbree) and his sister, Cynthia E. Robinson (David Kingsbury), her children, Olivia and Renn, aunts Diana Nelson Robinson (Mike Nelson), Nina Robinson, uncles Craig Robinson (Jean), Charles Robinson (Catherine Wilkes), and Spencer Robinson (Susan) and cousins Bronwyn, Justin, Keith, Joe, Nolan, and Maeve.
A memorial service with reception to follow will be held on Saturday 25 March 2023 from 10 AM to 3 PM at The Elks Lodge on Pantano Street in Tucson, AZ.
Rick loved his critters, as he called his three cats and dogs and in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Hermitage Cat Shelter on E. 21st Street in Tucson. https://www.hermitagecatshelter.org/
