Robert (Bob) Paul Friedman M.D.'s Obituary
Robert (Bob) Paul Friedman, M.D., passed away August 27, after a prolonged illness. He was 75 years old. Born in Queens, New York to Anne and Herman Friedman, Bob completed his pre-med studies at the University of Toledo and earned his medical degree at Ohio State University in 1963, where he was the youngest member of his graduating class. In 1962 he married Sharon Jaffee in Toledo, Ohio, with whom he moved to Detroit to complete his residency in Dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital. In 1967, Bob and Sharon, along with new daughter Diana, moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where Bob served at the U.S. Naval Academy. In 1969, Bob and Sharon, along with Diana and new daughter Lara, crossed the country to move to Tucson – to join Bob’s sister Harriet and her family, for the nice weather, to play as much tennis as possible, and to become one of the founding families in Congregation Chaverim. Bob practiced Dermatology in Tucson until his retirement in 2002. In 1990, following an amicable divorce, Bob married Patricia Kniffin, and welcomed into his heart and his life two sons, Robert and Jason Kniffin. In the years following his remarriage and then his retirement, Bob lived life with gusto, traveling widely with Patty, hiking in Sabino Canyon with his dear friend Manny Furst, strolling on the beach in Coronado, and generally spending as much time as possible with those he loved. Bob was known by all who came in contact with him for his kindness, his brilliance, his loving nature, and his irrepressible sense of humor, including his love of puns. He was beloved by his family, his friends, and his patients, and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife Patricia Friedman, daughters Diana and Lara and their mother Sharon, sons Bobby and Jason, sister Harriet, grandchildren Sophia, Alex, Ty, Aaron, Aiden, and Kaia
