Robert Wheeler's Obituary
Robert Wheeler, 84 died July 5, 2011 in Tucson, where he has resided for 57 years. Preceded in death by father, Hugh Wheeler, mother Eva Louise Wheeler and a brother Richard Wheeler. Beloved husband of 55 years to Doris; devoted father of Christopher Mark Wheeler of Los Angeles, CA, Wayne Russell (George Strasburger) Wheeler of Scranton, PA; dear brother of Patricia Baird and Michael Wheeler of Pendleton, OR. Born in Colfax, WA and raised in Tacoma and worked in a shipyard building military ships. In 1946 Mr. Wheeler entered into the US Army for six months and was honorably discharged. He then was employed by the Rex Theater in Tacoma. He re-entered the military and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was involved in a boat rescue of survivors in Korea and also transported officers to and from shore. He came to Tucson in 1954 where he met his wife Doris. He was employed by Chapman Dyer Steel Mfg. for 22 years and then as a custodian for Amphi High School prior to retiring in 1991. Mr. Wheeler enjoyed traveling, gardening, movies, bird watching, long walks. He was a fan of the Tucson Toros Baseball team and an avid fan of the U of A Womens Basketball Team and was a long time season ticket holder. Memorial Service Saturday, July 9, 2011, 11:30 AM at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
