Ronald Jay Isaacs' Obituary
Isaacs, Ronald J. 88, died of COVID at Tucson Medical Center on April 25, 2023. He was born October 18, 1934 in Buffalo, NY. The son of Jacob and Esther (Crowley) Isaacs.
Ron graduated from Riverside High School, and University of Buffalo Pharmacy School. After graduation he served in the United States Army. He married Sandra Lazar in 1957 and settled in the Town of Tonawanda. She predeceased him in 2007. In 2010 he married Gail Szerlip.
Ron will be remembered for his exceptional work in his profession, Pharmacy. His involvement was far reaching: Rho Pi Phi – Honors: Certificate of Commendation – 1973, Merit Certificate – 1974, Erwin Kauffman Literary Plaque – 1988; Erie County Pharmaceutical Association – Honors: Most Active Pharmacist – 1975, Pharmacist who Has Done the Most for Pharmacy – 1978; Pharmacists’ Association of Western New York (PAWNY) – Honors: Member who has Done Much to Advance the Profession – 1984, Special Recognition Plaque – 1985, Pharmacy Hall of Fame – 1996, Rochester Drug Cooperation Pharmacist of the Year – 1998, Certificate of Appreciation – 1999; Pharmacists Society of the State of New York (PSSNY) – Honors: Honorary Degree – NARD – Doctor of Pharmacy – 1975, A. H. Robnins Bowl of Hygeia (Pharmacist of the Year) – 1988, Plaque of Continuing Service to Pharmacy – 1988.
His health-related work included: Pharmacy Theft Prevention Committee of Erie County, Independent Health Association, International Mini-Conventions, and Installation Banquet Fundraiser.
His Activities outside of Pharmacy and Health – related Fields: Parents for all Children, Temple Beth El, Temple B eth El Cemetery Corporation (Buffalo), The Foundation of Jewish Philanthropies’, Boy scouts of America – Greater Niagara Frontier Council, District Ken-ton, Troop 284, Masons, B’NAI B’RITH, United States Army
He is survived by his wife Gail and his four children: Andrea (Thomas) Durlak -Children: Jennifer, Sean, and Teresa (Steven Rozier); Rochelle (Paul) Layman – Child: Jacob, Edward (Melinda) Isaacs – Children: Mathew, Epiphany, Ezelea, and Calvin; Asher Isaacs – Child Ashton, and two step sons, Mark (Lisa) Szerlip – Children: Joel, Jen, Ally, and Tim, and Norman Szerlip. He was a Great Grandfather of three.
A service of Remembrance will be held: Evergreen: 3015 North Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ at 10:00. Reception to follow at the Skyline Country Club.
