Ruth Joyce Roe's Obituary
Ruth Joyce Roe (Booker) was born in her home in Barnard, Indiana on June 19, 1933. She was the last of four daughters born to Frank and Bernice Booker. She attended the 3 room school there in Barnard and later graduated from Roachdale High School.
Through her childhood she was a tremendous help to her parents around the farm and especially her mother with household tasks. Then, when the health of both her grandfathers declined, she graciously aided in their care until their passing. As a child her greatest joys were music. She was very blessed with amazing talent both for singing and playing piano. So much so, in fact, that she took lessons and had plans on making that her career. All that changed however when she fell in love with Floyd Roe, whom she met while he worked on her family’s farm.
Joyce and Floyd were married December 30, 1951 in Barnard and were happily married for 50 years. Joyce was a proud member of Mt. olive Baptist Church in Barnard her entire life. She graced them with her musical talents and taught Sunday School. She also maintained the grounds and kept the church pristine. In 1971 she and Floyd bravely moved their family of 5 to Tucson, Arizona after being advised by doctors that it would improve their son Kevin’s health. She loved to travel and went with her family on many unforgettable trips. She had made it a goal to visit every state in the US and successfully did just that in addition to visiting a few other countries. She continued her love of music after moving to Tucson where she played organ and sang at church and filled her home with the joyful sound of her singing and playing nearly every afternoon. Joyce was preceded in death by her 3 sisters, husband Floyd, son Kevin and grandson Joshua. She is survived by daughters Rachael Charboneau and Melinda Eshpeter, grandchildren Jeremy Charboneau and Jessica Charboneau and great grandchildren Kayla Miller, Kaiden Charboneau, and Kameron Charboneau along with numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce went home to be with our Lord on November 28, 2020 in Tucson, Arizona as a result of complications following a fall.
Graveside services were held on December 4, 2020 at Evergreen Mortuary and Cemetery in Tucson, Arizona.
