My family is so sad to read about Ruthie. We missed her passing because my mother was being transferred from skilled nursing back to assisted living when Ruth died. Otherwise, we would have known immediately. The reason we would have known is that Ruth called my mother and father, Steve and Ellie Ulin, every day for the past three years. She was the voice my mother knew and waited for because Ruthie showed her that she remembered them. My folks are 98 and 93 and they don't have many dealings with the outside world other than family. Ruth was that connection to the world for them, a hello and a kind word - every day.
When my mom went into the hospital on April 17, Ruth transferred those calls to me. I loved hearing that gravelly voice booming across the wires. When Mom finally got back to assisted living @ May 25th, I told Ruth she could start calling her directly. I am sorry that somewhere in that transfer, we lost her. When asked, my mom would continue to tell me that she had talked to Ruth that day.....
Please accept our condolences and know that the Ulin family is grieving the loss of such an integral part of our extended family.
Best personal regards,
Joy Ulin Greenberg
