Dr. Sabatino DiCenso's Obituary
Dr. Sabatino DiCenso Was born on July 13, 1933 and passed away on January 30, 2021.He is survived by his children, Teresa, Laura, Michael and Lisa, grandson Andrew, and all of Tucson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angela and Joseph DiCenso, brothers Dr. Remo DiCenso and Dr. Dino DiCenseo.
Dr. Sabatino DiCenso was born in Buffalo, New York. He moved with his family to Tucson in 1946. He graduated from Tucson High School in 1951. He received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Medal. He attended the University of Arizona from 1951 to 1954. He received General Honors for each of the years he attended. He then attended the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska from 1954 to 1958.He graduated Summa Cum Laude.
After completion of his surgical training at the Veterans Administration in Los Angeles, he returned to Tucson in 1965. He practiced general surgery for 30 years. He was on the staff of all the local hospitals but practiced primarily at St. Mary’s Hospital. He routinely did surgery gratis. He never complained. He was personally thanked by the administrator of St. Mary’s Hospital, Sister Julia Mary. Dr. DiCenso was a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of many other medical and surgical organizations. He was also an author of numerous medical articles. Dr. DiCenso was an avid fisherman. With his best friend, George Sarah, they fished thr Sea of Cortez. Dr. DiCenso also loved his garden and his many plants.
