Shifrette Diana Cohen's Obituary
Shifrette (Shiffy) Diana Cohen
Born on March 21, 1931 in Chicago to Eli and Gittel Bode (zl), Shiffy graduated from Marshall High School on Chicago’s west side in 1948. She met and married her husband Bob Cohen in 1951. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year. Shiffy was a devoted teacher and administrator in Jewish education at Anshe Emet and Solomon Schechter Day Schools in Chicago. And she was the very proud mother of three sons, Avi, Jeremy (zl) and David. Bob and Shiffy moved to Tucson in 1976 where Shiffy continued her profession as the founding director of the Tucson High School for Jewish Studies, where she worked for over a decade. As a lover of Jewish music and song she served in the Halevi Choral Society in Chicago and taught Jewish music in Tucson. She was a long-time member of Congregation Anshei Israel and Pioneer Women, as well as an active supporter of the State of Israel. Most of all, she was a loving Bubee to eleven grandchildren from daughter-in-laws Sari, Susan, Marscee and Ayelet. They are: Alexis, Madeleine, Katie, Brandon, Jordan, Daniele, Mikhael, Adam, Oriya, Lia and Eliyah. She is also survived by her brother Morrie Bode and his wife Annette. We will all miss her. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be made to the High School for Jewish Studies in Tucson Arizona, tucsonhebrewhigh.org. A funeral service will be held at Congregation Anshei Israel, 5550 E. 5th St., Tucson, AZ 85711 at 9:30 AM Thursday, September 17, 2015. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N.
