Shirley Ann Whittemore's Obituary
SHIRLEY A. WHITTEMORE, 89, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2015, after a long, long fight with Alzheimer’s disease. Shirley was born in Tacoma, WA on September 6, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon, in 1983 and her eldest son, Jerry, in 1996. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Terry Whittemore and her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Len Lantych; also, by her grandchildren, Scott Whittemore and Traci Roe. She also has many loving nieces and nephews. Also, for the past eight plus years, her family got larger with all of the wonderful, loving and caring people at Desert Treasure Residences.
Shirley was a great sports fan and loved being at games and enjoyed being 110% Panther after working in the Amphitheater School District since 1957 until her retirement in 2001. She was known by almost every student athlete wherever she went. One of her greatest moments was being inducted into Amphi’s Hall of Fame. Her retirement celebration was done in conjunction with a basketball game and was attended by many former and current athletes, teachers, administrators, family and friends. She was honored to have called Amphi home for over 40 years.
A private burial has been held. If you wish to honor Shirley in some way, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
