Simon Moret's Obituary
Simon Moret was born to Anna and Louis Moret on June 20, 1919, in New York City where he grew up. He was 19 when he met the love of his life Norma Schnapik. They wed in New York City July 19, 1942 and were married for 71 years .
As a teenager Simon was a civilian Army cadet and subsequently became a First Lieutenant in The Army of The United States . He was called to active service two months before Pearl Harbor. A veteran of WW II, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving with the 50th Armored Infantry Battalion 6th Armored Division in Europe. Simon was part of "The Brassiere Battalion", named for the place in France (Brest) where he fought alongside his troops until he was seriously wounded in August 1944 during a German mortar attack while defending his position. He served his country honorably from October 1941 until July 1945.
Before being sent overseas, Simon and Norma were stationed in CA, KY and LA as Lt. Moret participated in training exercises with Patton’s Super Sixth . After Simon’s Army discharge they lived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama over a four year period while Simon completed his college education at the University of Alabama. He received a BS degree in Industrial Engineering in 1948 courtesy of the GI Bill. They moved back to NY, living in Levittown until they settled to Tucson, AZ in 1952 to work for Grand Central Aircraft , later by Hughes Aircraft and the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and a licensed professional engineer in the state of AZ. He retired in 1982. Both Simon and Norma were members of Temple Emanuel since 1952.
Simon and late wife Norma have three adult children : Richard (Robbie) Moret of Tucson ,AZ, Ellen (Ron) Wedgle of Denver,CO , Jane (Bruce) Ash of Tucson,AZ , also grandchildren: Josh Moret, Toby Wedgle Helmstetter (Chris), Evyn Wedgle ( Wally ) Wild , Matthew (Tessa) Ash, and Michael (Onnie) Ash and great grandchildren: Julia Moret, Elgia and Lula Helmstetter, and Noa Wild. Graveside burial service conducted by Rabbi Samuel Cohon on August 28, 2015 at 9:30 AM at Evergreen Cemetery in the Temple Emanuel Section. The Moret family sends special thanks to Patient Care Advocates ( Joy, Thelma A , Thelma H and Yolanda ) as well as The TMC Hospice Team who took extraordinary care of both Simon and Norma.
