Sonya Turetzky's Obituary
Sonya nee Cabin Turetzky was born in Russia on September 14, 1910 and completed her life in Tucson, Arizona on October 9, 2012 at the age of 102. Sonya immigrated to the United States with her parents Abraham and Bessie Cabin at the age of 3. She was raised in Chicago, IL and was the oldest of five children. Her four younger brothers Max, Aaron, Hyman and Lawrence have all predeceased her. Sonya met her husband Ben in grammar school; they were married in Chicago, June 23, 1935 and celebrated their 74th Wedding Anniversary in Tucson, Arizona June 23, 2009. Sonya and Ben began spending their winters with their son Jerry Turetzky in 1995, and moved to Tucson to be with their son in 2002. Ben passed away in the home October 24, 2009, and Sonya remained in her son Jerry's home until her death. Sonya was a wonderful and caring daughter, sister, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She raised her children Jerry and Eileen to be faithful and honor G_D. Sonya and Ben always put the children first in their lives. Sonya's loving son Jerry predeceased her on February 29, 2012. Sonya is survived by Jerry's wife Judith of the home, Jerry's children Wendy, Andrea (Robert), Brittany, step-son Steven Dorries (Anna), predeceased by granddaughter Lisa (Matthew), survived by great grandchildren Haley, Kelly, Molly, Cecelia, Benjamin, Scarlett and Chloe.; daughter Eileen Ruzeck of Tucson, her husband James, grandchildren Robyn, Steven, great grandchildren Cody, Justin and Nathan. Sonya was also blessed by close friend and extended family member Rosa Mier and her home health care team Julie, Jennifer and Carolyn, who were with Sonya for two years and became close and loving friends. We would like to express our gratitude to Casa de la Luz and Megan for the wonderful care and attention, which made it possible for Sonya to remain in her home with her family.
