Stella M. Stookey's Obituary
Stella M. Stookey, age 89, passed away June 3, 2013 at Villa Campana in Tucson. She was born January 22, 1924 in LaMonte, Missouri to Edward B. and Mary A. Coon. She was predeceased by her parents, daughter, Pamela Joy Ford, her husband, Merl Stookey , and her brothers, Burl and Hobert Coon. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Ford Owen (Michael),two granddaughters, Amanda and Megan Owen, her sister, Zola Bundy, four nieces and one nephew, and her much-loved dog, Kismet. Stella moved to Tucson in 1971 and then to Green Valley in 2007 where she was a member of the Green Valley Community Church. She had been an administrative assistant at Pima Community College where she also received her Associates Degree. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa there. She had also worked in personnel at WABCO in Indianapolis and for Copley Newspapers in California. In 1989, Stella was named the ABWA El Sol Chapter's "Woman of the Year." She had been a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of True Kindred and White Shrine. She was also a "red-hatter." She enjoyed her friends, including her life-long friend, Sari, ballroom dancing, painting, sewing, her yard, and basketball. She was a rabid Arizona Wildcats fan! A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Animal League of Green Valley,or the donor's favorite charity. Evergreen Mortuary and Cemetery is handling arrangements with interment in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
