Suey Linn Gee's Obituary
Suey Linn Gee, 85, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed peacefully on May 18, 2022 in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona. He was born October 10, 1936, the second child of Poy Lim and Shee Fung Gee. He grew up as a fun-loving sibling to three brothers and one sister, whom he loved to play pranks on.
After graduating from Tucson High School in 1955, Suey attended University of Arizona for 2 years studying Business and then joined the United States Army for over two years stationing at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
After his time in the Army his desire to own his grocery business came to fruition in 1963. Suey became owner of Jerry’s Lee Ho Market. His grocery store serviced the historic Tucson downtown barrio for generations. He put his heart and soul in that market and took care of his customers like family. The barrio loved and respected him, and neighborhood abuelas regularly came by to feed Suey some of his favorite foods: tamales and menudo. After over 35 years, he officially closed the store and retired in 2002.
Suey kept up a few hobbies over the years. One of his proudest accomplishments was getting his pilot’s license and taking family and friends into the sky. As a Tucson native and alumni, he was a passionate fan of University of Arizona sports. Bear Down Arizona! Go Wildcats! Football, basketball, baseball, softball, he followed all of Arizona sports. Aside from watching U of A games, Suey stayed active with a weekly bowling league and playing golf. He also enjoyed going on cruises with his wife. His favorite part was sampling new foods and catching the ocean breeze with a good book.
Suey was known for his compassion, generosity, and sarcastic humor. Known as “Uncle Suey” to family and friends, he was able to bring smiles and joyous laughter. He was never shy to speak his opinion and didn't bother with political correctness. People knew him as bluntly honest, but when he paid you a compliment, it was earnest and heartfelt. Deep down he had a noble, yet sensitive soul, and ensured everyone felt special the moment he greeted them.
Suey was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister. He is survived by spouse, Elina, daughters Susan (Garland) and Stephanie (George), Son, Eric (Jenny) and four wonderful grandkids: Kaitlyn, Addison, Devon, and Olivia. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
