I have so many wonderful memories of Tanner. He was part of our family and like a son to me. Tanner and my son, Zach were best friends. During the summers, Zach would ask if Tanner could spend the night and hang out. That one night usually turned into 3 or 4 nights in a row. They would stay up all night playing video games, eating an entire box of snack size chips, and jelly beans. Not just regular jelly beans. These kids were weird, the liked the black licorice jelly beans, and they would sneak them out of my husband's gum ball machine. They would go on to eat anything else that wasn't nailed down. I guess our home felt like Tanner's summer home. I'm just so thankful that he felt welcome and comfortable with us.
When it wasn't summer time you could always find Zach and Tanner on the baseball field. Tanner on the mound and Zach behind the plate. In my mind, the dynamic duo. Tanner had an arm and oh man could he pitch a ball. I loved watching him pitch with Zach catching. He was about as accurate as they come. I just wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that 96 mph fast ball.
I will miss Tanner coming over periodically, walking in with his infectious, but yet mischievous smile and giving me a hug. I will miss hearing his voice amongst the grownup kid conversations around the dining room table, followed by much laughter. Tanner, you will forever be loved and missed by the Davis family.
