Thelma D. Seymour's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Dennett Seymour on July 11, 2015 in Thousand Oaks, California. Thelma was born on March 31, 1928 in Tucson, Arizona and was a descendent of one of the original pioneer families in Arizona. She was a fourth generation Tucsonan, remaining in Tucson for the majority of her adult life. She was a graduate with honors from the Immaculate Heart Academy in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona. She had a strong work ethic and was employed at the civic and county levels. In her youth, she was a member of the Pima County Young Democrats, which created a sense of civic involvement for her that she maintained for most of her life. She later pursued work in the private sector of town including employment with prominent attorney Ben Lazaro and cattle rancher H.B. Thurber. It was during her tenure with Ben Lazaro that she met her future husband of 48 years, Monte Seymour, a real estate developer, who predeceased her on October 1, 2013. With Monte’s encouragement, she pursued her real estate agent license and went onto acquire her broker’s license, which allowed her to work with him. In addition to creating Ajo Way Realty together, Monte and Thelma traveled the world for many years of their marriage and truly enjoyed the adventures, especially when they began to travel with their daughter, Estelle. She believed that traveling broadened a person and made a point of taking her son, David, to Europe when he was a young boy. In addition to traveling, she had many outside interests and would not hesitate to focus to master whatever she set out to learn. She was an accomplished pianist and guitarist along with having a beautiful singing voice. She learned Italian and spoke it along with Spanish and English. She could also cook like a gourmet as well as knit and needlepoint. Gardening was another one of her passions and she derived great pleasure from either using her own herbs when cooking or admiring her cut roses. She was an accomplished and spirited individual with a true generosity of her heart that brought a smile to everyone that she met. She was the happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren and considered them to be the fruits of her labors. She is survived by her son, David Rodriguez of Camarillo, California and her daughter, Estelle Elliott (Ted) of Westlake Village, California; grandchildren Christina Rodriguez of Tucson and Teddy Elliott, Sam Elliott and Rose Elliott of Westlake Village, California. She is also survived by sisters Denisa Garcia and Celina Meisner of Tucson and brother Harold Dennett of Kingman, Arizona as well as other extended family. The family will hold a visitation at Evergreen Mortuary, 3015 N. Oracle Road, on Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Mass will be held at Saint Augustine’s Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Avenue, on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 9:00 am with internment immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Road.
