Thomas A. Nelson's Obituary
Thomas A. Nelson, fondly known as Tom, Tommy, dad and papa, was born to Lawrence and Lucy Nelson on November 3, 1955, in New Jersey. They moved their growing family to Arizona where they continued their lives. Tom went to NAU after graduating high school where he received his degree in political science and business. After graduating, Tom had joined the copper mines like many of his brothers. After a large lay off he took his young family to Houston, TX where he became a Houston police officer. He worked hard and enjoyed his career, was promoted to Sergeant and retired after 29 years on the force. Tom was a loving, caring and kind husband, father and grandfather, who always put the needs of others before his own. He was a devout Christian, lover of baseball and all about family. He was always cracking jokes and putting a smile on everyone's face. He always had words of comfort for those who needed it. Tom's personality brought warmth and joy to everyone he encountered. He will be mourned deeply by everyone who knew and loved him. He was sent to be with our Lord and savior on August 28, 2024. His memory will live on in the hearts of family, friends and everyone who had a privilege of knowing him. Tom’s loving spirit is carried on by his wife, Mary; their children, John (Jeap), Christina (Shaun), Martin (Naomi), Anthony (Wendy), Alicia (Justin) and Mariah (Collin); grandchildren Zachary (Zoey), Daniel, Asia, Blake, Carter, Ian, Luke, Davis, Norah, Avigail, Leo, and Trey, his siblings, Donald (Winnie), Clara (Ron), Lawrence (Joanne), Robert (Anna), James (Jill), Paul (Rose), and Maryann; a large amount of cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in peace were his parents, Lawrence and Lucy, sister Alice, granddaughter Cailyn and grandson John Daniel. He will be greatly missed. Until we meet again, papa. We love you!
